Shipboard Employment Opportunities

Job Description

Your role onboard will be to encourage and educate cruise ship guests about the fantastic shopping ashore, while also saving them valuable time and money in the ports of call.

One of your most important selling and promoting tools will be the Recommended & Guaranteed Shopping Maps that you will distribute, explain, and promote during your presentations and guest satisfaction hours on board. This map is produced by The PPI Group and highlights each of the stores in the ports of call that participate in the cruise line’s Port Shopping Program, listing the key items and special offers available in these stores.

The Port & Shopping Presenter will meet with the store managers, owners, or marketing representatives to discuss sales, ongoing and future promotions, and to brainstorm strategies to increase foot traffic and revenue for future port calls.

Below are some key bullet points outlining the main aspects of working as a Port & Shopping Presenter.

Live Port & Shopping Presentations

  • Create shoreside shopping excitement
  • Audiences size up to 1,000 guests
  • 45 minutes to one hour in length
  • Recorded/replayed on stateroom televisions
  • One to three presentations are given per cruise

Gemstone, Watch, and Brand Seminars

  • Target VIP shoppers
  • Focus is on specific gemstones, designer timepieces, and International Brands
  • Minimum of one seminar per cruise

Guest Satisfaction Desk Hours

  • Daily day/evening desk hours as a guest service
  • Assist guests with questions about the ports of call and shopping ashore
  • Pre-qualify guests for specific purchases
  • Recommend specific items/stores by distributing VIP cards
  • Set appointments to meet guests ashore to assist them with major purchases
  • Assist with customer service questions and issues
  • Minimum of 2 hours per day

Gangway Duty

  • Available to answer last-minute shopping or port-related questions
  • Distribute shopping maps, VIP cards
  • Minimum of one hour per port

Socializing Aboard the Ship

  • Increase the exposure of the shopping program
  • Attend Captain’s receptions, VIP parties, deck parties
  • Cross-promote with other revenue departments

Merchant Visits Ashore

  • Build and maintain relationships with shoreside partners
  • Discuss sales and promotional ideas for future calls in order to increase revenue
  • Visit every partner on the Shopping Program (up to 50 stores per port)
  • Assist cruise ship guests with purchases and questions

Administration

  • Complete and submit an End of Voyage Package consisting of general paperwork and a video of your live presentations
  • Programs used include Microsoft Office and general email programs
